She started off as Kimber on Two and a Half Men, however, once her character became a regular on the show, it was casually changed to Kandi. The star April Bowlby appeared on the hit sitcom during its prime and because of that, she developed quite the fan base.
We will take a look at how Bowlby got her spot on the sitcom along with her time behind the scenes with the show's biggest stars, Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer.
In addition, we will take a look at her thriving projects these days; yes, she is still very much in the business and in addition, she also has her own podcast.
In her 40s, fans are wondering what she is looking like these days and, in truth, it should not come as a surprise to realize that the star is aging with grace.
Updated on June 15, 2023: April Bowlby has had a busy year so far. Her hit DCU television series Doom Patrol released its fourth season at the beginning of 2023, though it was unfortunately canceled by the Max streaming service after the season aired. Other than TV, Bowlby has been devoting attention to her son (who was born towards the end of 2022) alongside her partner.
No matter what the interview, it seems like questions about Two And A Half Men will always come up for its cast members. For April Bowlby, getting the role came as a total shock and, in fact, her character was supposed to be written off the show after just one episode.
She instantly turned heads at the audition and, as a surprise to so many, it was her first tryout ever!
"It was very exciting, let me tell ya. I was very nervous but, luckily, when you're just starting out, and if you have a good team – which I did, you go on all sorts of auditions and you just hope you're booked for a role. It was like a numbers game but with Kandi, the character really worked for me.
The star would also admit to Cream Magazine that things were just as good off the set, as she developed a relationship with both Jon Cryer and Charlie Sheen.
"When we chatted [off-camera], he was actually laid back with a very dry, raw sense of humor. He and Jon Cryer were very charismatic with each other. The show was at its peak when I entered the picture; a well-oiled machine with everyone getting along."
April took on the role of Kandi during the show's prime. In turn, it would lead to lots of eyeballs on the show and more future gigs.
Unlike other celebs in the business, April did not want to get typecast under the same role. Following the show, she kept her options very diverse, appearing on The Big Bang Theory and later, Doom Patrol.
She continued to thrive on the DCU series Doom Patrol as Rita, and as she revealed when talking with Brief Take, things were running very smoothly with the rest of the cast behind the scenes as well. This has translated to strong chemistry between the crew.
"It translates absolutely beautifully. I think that our characters on screen are full of depth and life, because as human beings offscreen, we've really connected and we rely on each other a lot, because as well, we're in such incredible circumstances, like how do you play this relationship with a roller-skating evil time doctor?"
"But also make it about the connection with the people and how we were past our issues in life. I think because our relationship as human beings have grown throughout the two years that we have been blessed to work with each other, I think it really shows on screen and that the journeys are intertwined."
Along with her role on the show, Bowlby hosted her own podcast, 75 reads, together with her friend Jo Bozarth for 29 episodes. It is safe to say that she has kept very busy since her time on the popular sitcom.
However, given that she is now in her 40s, fans are curious to see what the star looks like these days. Thanks to platforms like Instagram, we can see what the star looks like today off the TV set. In truth, she is still looking great and aging very gracefully!
April posts semi-regularly on Instagram and has an impressive following of just under 250K. Her podcast link can also be found on her profile page.
That's right, she still looks great these days, and only getting better with age.
Not only is she looking great, but she loved her role on Doom Patrol. A big reason for her success might be due to how diverse the show is, something that is very strong for the actress given all the different projects she has worked on in the past.
"Doom Patrol is an incredible, unique show. I think because we cover all the genres that it delights me to live in that world because I get to perform across from a robot and what he's saying is: [chuckles] he's really voicing the actualization of the human condition, but he's a robot. I look over to my left and there's a flying sex ghost. I think that it's an incredibly deep and informed show because we deal with many issues like PTSD, body image, and subjects like that."
